Castro
|
Perched on a rugged cliff above the sea, the old town of Castro is nestled between the Romanesque Cathedral, the castle and several towers. The marina looks toward one of the most beautiful bays in Puglia. It is a fishing village of very ancient origins, as witnessed by recent excavations that brought to light the remains of the Temple of Minerva and of caves inhabited in prehistoric eras, such as the Romanelli or the Zinzulusa grottoes. The latter offers thousands marvelous stalactites, so many that the fishermen who first entered the grotto thought that they were zinzuli, literally ‘hanging rags’. |
